The Flemish Sociological Association (Vlaamse Vereniging voor Sociologie) (VVS) was established on 17 december 1975, as the successor to the Belgian Sociological Association. Its goal is defined as promoting the practise and development of sociology and advancing the professional interests of sociologists.
The association, together with the Flemish sociological research centres, launched a Flemish journal of sociology in 1980: Tijdschrift voor Sociologie. At the moment, the Tijdschrift voor Sociologie is the only scientific sociological journal in Flanders. The working language of the journal, like that of the association, is Dutch, but the abstracts in English are available in the journal's archive.
Apart from publishing a journal, the Flemish Sociological Association organises conferences and lectures, awards a yearly prize for the best article written by a young sociology graduate, and publishes the online newsletter Sociodata.
On the international scene, the Flemish Sociological Association cooperates closely with the Dutch Sociological Association (NSV) and is a member of the International Sociological Association (ISA).
